When is the iPhone 6 going to be discontinued

Come December 31st, Apple will be saying its final goodbye to one of its most popular and bestseller smartphones, the Apple iPhone 6 Plus. According to an internal memo, Apple will add the iPhone 6 Plus to its list of retro products by the end of 2021.

But Apple Store and Authorized Apple service providers will be selling repair parts for the iPhone 6 plus as long the parts are available.

Demand for iPhone 13 weakens, reports say

Meanwhile, there are reports and speculations that the demand for Apple iPhone 13 has reduced. The company is said to have informed its component suppliers about this reduction of demand. Already, Apple was facing scarcity to avail its parts and hence, it had cut down the unit’s production by as many as 10 million. According to Bloomberg News, Apple was planning to make up for this shortfall by next year.

To boost the purchase of iPhone 13, the company had announced rebate programs, which enabled iPhone 12 owners to upgrade to iPhone 13 at a nominal cost difference. The shoppers in the US are said to be waiting for the booked devices for about a month.

How Much Is an iPhone 6 Worth?

Launched September 2014 and 2015, respectively, the iPhone 6 and 6s are virtually indistinguishable at first glance. Beneath the matching exteriors, however, the s-update brought with it features like 3D Touch, live photos, and an upgraded processor and camera, making the iPhone 6s a popular choice still today.

Originally priced at $649 for the iPhone 6 and 6s and $749 for the iPhone 6 Plus and 6s Plus, the since-discontinued series can still be purchased from third-party retailers for between $100 and $450 (either new or refurbished), a great budget choice for iPhone fans.

How long will the iPhone 7 be supported?

The iPhone 7 will be officially supported till September 12, 2022, which is when iOS 16 gets released. After the iOS 16 release takes place, Apple may stop signing iOS 15.6.1 within a month of the release. Unless the company sends additional security updates for iPhone 7, iOS 15.6.1 could be the end of support for this model.

The iPhone 7 lineup joins the iPhone 5s to be the most supported iPhone to date as the latter received 6 feature updates during its lifetime; from iOS 7 to iOS 12. The iPhone 7 was released with iOS 10.0.1 out of the box and it currently runs iOS 15.6.1, which means it too has received six major updates to date.

The iPhone 6 Plus is now considered obsolete by Apple

The classic iPhone 6, which was released during the same period, did not join the list. Indeed, although the smartphone was also launched for the first time in 2014, Apple decided in 2017 to market it as a mid-range model, like today’s iPhone SE. It will therefore be necessary to wait a few more years before seeing it join his big brother.

The iPhone 6 Plus will no longer receive any updates from Apple. The US manufacturer stopped offering feature updates to the device in 2019 with the release of iOS 13, which excluded iPhone 6s and iPhone 5S. From now on, the smartphone will no longer even be entitled to security patches.
